Engineered for great taste, Gelato is a cross between Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies and Sunset Sherbert, a fruity Indica hybrid. A variety of distinct Gelato phenotypes have been published by Cookie Fam Genetics, and among these are a “Larry Bird” phenotype (trait #33) in honor of the Hall of Fame player’s jersey number. This strain has an Indica-leaning high and has a THC composition of 25%. Gelato’s buds are on the small side, but their structure is much denser and thicker than many Indica varieties. At first glance, it has instant visual appeal: the pistils of this strain are fiery orange against the green leaves that are outlined by deep purple tones. Owing to the existence of pigments called Anthocyanin, purple tones occur in the plant as a result of low temperatures during the vegetative stage. The buds themselves are sticky, but the short stalks on the trichomes result in a less frosty appearance. The heavy citrus aroma complements the fruity parent strain, Sunset Sherbert, to create an ice cream-like fragrance for the flowers. This strain has a mellow high with a fantastic taste profile, making it an excellent choice for social use. Gelato is infamous for kicking in almost instantly before the user has even taken another drag. Quickly, this leads to a drastic shift in smokers’ perceptions of their surroundings, which forces them to adapt to their new enhanced mental state. This surge of euphoria is offset by a noticeable body buzz that discourages extensive movement but also helps the user to walk around without being immobile.
